Carrie Fisher, best known for her role as Princess Leia in the original Star Wars trilogy (and more recently as General Leia in the more recent Star Wars films), passed away this past December. Since then, fans have been paying their respects to the actress in any way they can.
Star Wars: The Old Republic players gathered in Alderaan to pay their respects and the Elite Dangerous developers claimed the next update would bring a memorial for the late actress.
Now, a petition on Change.org is calling for Disney to make Princess Leia an official Disney princess. The petition is addressed to Disney CEO Bob Iger from a fan named Cody Christensen, who detailed to Geek.com that he believed it was "time to change the rules" of what makes Disney princesses official.
The petition reads as follows:
"After the tragic lose of Carrie Fisher, we feel that it is only fitting for Disney to do away with the rule that an official Disney princess must be animated and make Leia a full-fledged princess. This would be a wonderful way to remember Carrie and a welcoming to one of Disney's new properties that is beloved by millions.
"What we are asking is that the Walt Disney Corporation hold a full ceremony inducting Leia as the newest Disney princess as well as a special service in memory of Carrie Fisher."
Official Disney princesses get some sort of coronation ceremony and while Princess Leia is featured in a brand owned by Disney – and a princess (at least in the originals, she's a General now) – she has not received her own coronation.
At the time of writing, the petition has garnered nearly 25,000 signatures.
