Noticeably absent from this year’s E3 Microsoft showcase was the reboot that was teased last year of Yukio Futatsugi’s card based strat game, Phantom Dust. Earlier this year, the same game became the focus point for the folding of Florida based development studio, Darkside Games and exposed some of the tense financial politics that surround the creation of our favorite games.
When questioned this year about the lack of appearance for Phantom Dust, Microsoft’s marketing head, Aaron Greenberg stated that the belabored game is no longer in active development but cautioned that it has not been officially cancelled, stating instead that while the game will take longer that usually to finally make its appearance, the project remains dear to many on the team and they hope to revisit it in the future.
The first Phantom Dust was released in 2005 for the original Xbox.
