Pikmin 3 ditches Olimar for three new protagonists

Captain Olimar, the adventurous Pikmin herder won't be the main character in Pikmin 3. Instead, players will take control of Alph, Charlie and Brittany, three space travelers in search of food for their planet. Crashlanding on the planet with Pikmin of course starts a new adventure with the cute little critters.

The game will revolve around finding various fruit that will be turned into juice. This juice will allow the trio of space travelers to continue to search for more food. However, running out will mean they cannot continue.

Unlike the previous Pikmin games, where running out of time would mean game over. Pikmin 3 will allow players to start over from any given day, allowing them to fix their mistakes and continue the adventure.

Iwata also revealed that Pikmin 3 will be playable with both the Wii U gamepad and the Wii Remote and Nunchuck combo. The game will also be entirely playable on the Gamepad. And for the first time, the Gamepad will be able to be used as a monitor and played with the Wii Remote and Nunchuck.
