Paradox Interactive has announced that Obsidian Entertainment's eagerly awaited role-playing game Pillars of Eternity has officially gone gold.
Originally called "Project Eternity," the fan-funded modern take on classic role-playing games was the 10th most funded Kickstarter ever and second most funded video game. Now, after two and a half years of development, Pillars of Eternity — as it's now called — is finally ready for release on March 26, 2015.
“Seeing Pillars of Eternity through has been an incredible journey for all of us at a deeply personal level,” said Obsidian Entertainment CEO Feargus Urquhart. “When we took our idea to Kickstarter, our fans got behind us more than we ever thought. It’s been a blast to match their enthusiasm, see them cheer us on, and have them help to keep us on course every step of the way. It's crazy to think that more than two years have come and gone, but time flies that way when you are creating something as important as Pillars of Eternity has become to us.”
Inspired by classic titles such as Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale, Pillars of Eternity "aims to recapture the magic, imagination, depth, and nostalgia of classic RPG's that we enjoyed making – and playing." This means lots RPG customization options like choosing your race, class and abilities, as well as an intriguing world to adventure through. As for gameplay, Pillars of Eternity is said to use a custom rule system "heavily inspired by classic and contemporary tabletop fantasy role-playing games."
