After months of waiting with bated breath, we finally have the date in which PlanetSide 2's Closed Beta will arrive on PlayStation 4. As previously mentioned, it will begin this month — January 20th, to be exact.
According to PlanetSide 2 Executive Producer Clint Worley, the beta period will be used to test servers, performance, and other aspects of the game, while also giving SOE a chance to hear feedback from you — the players — directly.
"How does the game look and feel? Is navigating through the menus intuitive and utilizing DualShock 4 in the best way?" are just some of the questions SOE wants your feedback on. And all players in the closed beta will have access to the special Beta forums which will serve as the primary place for development interaction and feedback. If you recall, one of the reasons PlanetSide 2 took so long to enter closed beta was because of the work being done on the user interface, so I'm eager to see the result.
SOE says they'll invite "a few thousand" players into the beta at the beginning, and will continue to invite players in waves throughout the Closed Beta period. Players will be invited in chronological order of when they signed up, so hopefully you didn't wait too long. The good news is, sign ups are still open through PlanetSide 2's website, so while you might have to wait a while, at least there's a chance you can still get in and participate.
"With its massive battles and enormous continents, PlanetSide 2 is a one-of-kind gaming experience, and we are excited to finally bring the world’s largest MMOFPS to PS4 this month," Worley concluded.
