PlanetSide 2’s official PS4 launch date announced

For the past few months, PlanetSide 2 has been in beta testing on the PlayStation 4. That's about to come to an end as Daybreak Game Company and Sony announced that the MMO shooter will see a complete launch on PS4 on June 23rd in North America.

PlanetSide 2, which as been available on PC since 2012, is a first-person shooter MMO featuring all-out planetary war on a massive scale. Combining infantry, air, and ground vehicle gameplay, victory requires just as much strategy as it does skill.

"We’ve put a lot of effort into streamlining and improving the feature set so that PS4 players will have the ultimate massive-scale, FPS gaming experience," said PlanetSide 2 Director of Development Andy Sites. "We’ve also incorporated some unique features that are currently exclusive to the PS4 version, which for example, include the new battle map, Koltyr."

PlanetSide 2 will launch as a free-to-play game on PS4 with no PlayStation Plus membership required. That being said, there are in-game microtransactions to purchase weapons, customizations, camos, decals, and more.
