PlanetSide 2 officially made its long-awaited release on the PlayStation 4 on Tuesday, June 23rd. The game has been in development for quite a while, but it looks as though once the game is up and running at its best, development for the game will begin yet again — this time, for the Xbox One.
Andy Sites, the Director of Development at Daybreak Games revealed to Polygon that they are definitely looking at developing for the Xbox One. "Right now, our focus is PS4, but we're absolutely looking at Xbox One. Once we get PS4 done, we're going to start working on Xbox One work. We would love to do it all at once, but we want to get PlayStation 4 out first."
The PS4 version of PlanetSide 2 was not cheap to develop, the entire process has cost "nearly $30 million to make," according to Daybreak Games' President John Smedley. The game's development has put the studio in the position of "putting their money where their mouth is." Daybreak would have to get a decent sum of money lined up to develop for the Xbox One.
The development of Xbox One games from Daybreak Games is no surprise. When the studio first split-off from Sony it was teased that they couldn't wait to make Xbox One games. The break-away from Sony meant that they could pull from "even more resources" and allowed them to "fully embrace the multi-platform world."
