PlanetSide 2 won’t require PS Plus on PS4

PlanetSide 2 is releasing as a free-to-play game on PS4, but today Matt Higby, the game's creative director, confirmed you won't even need a PlayStation Plus subscription to play it. This isn't too surprising considering MMOs and most other free-to-play games on the PS4 don't require a PS Plus subscription, but it's still nice to have some confirmation.

Elsewhere in today's update, Higby shared new art for the game which you can see attached, along with new content that will be included on the PS4 version. Higby noted that the team is working on "a lot of content and game systems enhancements to the live game." New features they hope to deliver in the next few months include: Hossin, the fourth full 64sqkm continent, and advanced achievement system called Directives, player-driven continent conquest/locking, and expansions to the Outfits systems. All of these features will be implemented on both the PC and PS4 versions of PlanetSide 2.

Unfortunately, what we didn't get today is a release date for the eagerly awaited game. The good news is that for the first time PlanetSide 2 will be playable on the PS4 at E3. Be sure to check back next week for our impressions and maybe a release date.
