Platinum Games is in the early planning stages of ‘Bayonetta 3’

Platinum Games is already in early talks to develop the long-awaited sequel to the 'Bayonetta' series.

September will mark a full three years that the world has been denied a sequel to 2014's critically acclaimed 'Bayonetta 2'. Developer, Platinum Games, has been hard at work developing such titles as 'Lost Order' and 'Nier:Automata', so it's easy to see why the sequel has only been in talks as of late.

In a recent interview with Source Gaming at this year's BitSummit, Atsushi Inaba of Platinum Games answered a lot of questions about their history with Nintendo and what they have in store for the future. On the subject of the coveted sequel, Inaba had this to say:

I would like to make Bayonetta 3. We’re talking within the company even now about what to do. But because we’re constantly talking about it, that actually makes it really hard to say. If we weren’t talking about it, we could just say something random or offhand, you know, but because we’re actually talking about it…Of course, that’s just something that you talk about when you’re making a series – do you want to keep the same protagonist? There’s plenty of precedent for changing protagonists, and so that is something we discuss – do we want to keep the same one, have a different one, add new ones – but that’s certainly not anything I can say for sure at this point.

The future of the franchise is clearly still up in the air. We've seen projects nearing completion that still end up in the scrap heap, despite how anticipated they might have been. Stick with us for more developments on 'Bayonetta 3' and maybe an official announcement soon from Platinum Games.
