2020 is poised to become a major year for PlatinumGames. The creators of some of the most beloved action games of the past decade are trying to spread their wings and become a major player in the gaming scene next-gen.
To reach these lofty goals, the studio has been releasing important new steps for the company’s future as part of the Platinum4 campaign. It started with arguably an eye-catching announcement of a multiplatform remaster of the Wii U exclusive The Wonderful 101.
It was followed by an exciting new game announcement with Project G.G. A next-gen giant monster action game reminiscing of the Godzilla and Super Sentai movies. The project is still in heavy development and is slated to come out for next-gen.
Coinciding Project G.G., PlatinumGames is also expanding as a company with PlatinumGames Tokyo. The goal is to become a publisher for smaller studios and also create an entirely in-house game engine. This will be powering the studio’s future games and enable a custom-tailored tool to realize the designer’s ideas in the best way possible.
On April 1st, the final piece of Platinum4 will be shared with the public according to a new tease. It remains to be seen what the announcement will be. Is it another company-oriented news? Could it even be yet another entirely new game? Or another much-wanted game port from the developer’s deep library of titles? After all, rumors of Bayonetta 2 and Astral Chain coming to PC and more consoles have been heavily discussed after PlatinumGames embraced a multiplatform company strategy. We hope it won’t just be an April’s Fools’ Day joke.
