Activision has started a nice trial for the battle royale mode of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. During the entirety of April, everyone will have the chance to play Blackout free of charge as part of a Free Access promo on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Check out the trailer!
Free Access is how Activision calls this rather unusually long trial promo. During this period, gamers who down’t own Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be able to partake in heated battle royale battle in the Blackout mode where they will be pitted against everyone. Regular owners and other people who try out the Free Access. This is a great decision to give interested players a look at the real Blackout experience. Continuing the tactic no withhold anything from free players, the Free Access will feature the original Blackout map and the new second map Alcatraz.
One month is a long time to just try out a game and players will no doubt amass a lot of unlocks and XP during their month-long time. Activision is aware of this and is so kind to save all progress made by free players in case they decide to upgrade to the full version.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 launched last October and was sort of a giant experiment and risk for publisher Activision. For the first time in the seasoned franchise, there was no single-player campaign. Furthermore, its place was taken by Blackout. Black Ops 4’s own take on the popular battle royale multi-player game mode. Even more, on PC Black Ops 4 didn’t release on Steam and instead on the publisher’s own digital store Battle.net.
All the risks paid off in spades and Black Ops 4 became a surprise hit upon release. Every Call of Duty game sells well – despite the knee jerk hate the franchise is getting – but things were different with Black Ops 4. Not only did it continue to sell well despite lacking a major portion of content with a campaign, but the game also went on to break digital day one sales records with especially the Blackout mode being a positive surprise among fans.
