Play Star Wars: The Old Republic free for four days

Newcomers can try out Star Wars: The Old Republic for free as part of the Weekend Pass Free Trial event, going on now through Monday, April 23. Gamers can sign up without entering payment or credit card information.

The promotion comes as no surprise: Experts are predicting that subscriptions for the game will plummet by 500,000 players, lowering the total to 1.25 million by the end of the current fiscal year (March 2013).

"We believe that the apparent decline in subscribers is most likely due to a lack of 'end-game' content for the title, meaning that players who hit the level cap have few compelling options in terms of ongoing game play," analyst Doug Creutz said.

It looks like the "fastest-growing MMO ever" is losing steam.
