Play with the good kind of game pirates soon in Scurvy Scallywags

Ron Gilbert's match-three, musical pirate role-playing game for iOS devices is almost here, and the designer has given us a glimpse of the gameplay in a new trailer.

Scurvy Scallywags is short for Scurvy Scallywags in The Voyage to Discover the Ultimate Sea Shanty: A Musical Match-3 Pirate RPG. It joins other match-three games like Candy Crush Saga and Puzzle & Dragons on the app stores, both of which are immensely popular. This title probably won't topple those.

But this is a Ron Gilbert game! He's made classics like Maniac Mansion, The Secret of Monkey Island, and more recently, the adventure game The Cave.

"A build has been submitted to the App Store and now we wait," Gilbert wrote in a blog post. "And wait. And wait."

Scurvy Scallywags works on iPhone and iPad. Players engage in battles with monsters and other pirates, build ships, and can even accessorize their characters.
