Playable Star Wars Battlefront villain Boba Fett detailed

Boba Fett is an icon of the underworld of the Star Wars universe, and was also one of the first playable villains that developer DICE confirmed for Star Wars Battlefront. But only today has the studio outlined what it means to take up the bounty hunter’s helmet.

Boba Fett will, indeed, have a jetpack, DICE confirmed in a blog post, lending him advanced maneuverability. He can also fire mid-air using his EE-3 Carbine Rifle. His arsenal also includes a pair of wrist launchers: one outfitted with long-range rockets, and another sporting a close-range flamethrower. Longtime Battlefront fans will notice that Fett’s new-age outfit is faithful to his Battlefront 2 abilities.

Although Fett isn’t the only character capable of flight, he was still very difficult to balance. “When we first designed Boba Fett’s flight pack, it quickly became clear that the ability to fly unhindered was very powerful compared to other characters who didn’t have that ability,” said Senior Producer Jamie Keen. “For instance, when Boba Fett was facing off with Luke Skywalker in early development, it was unbalanced as there were no limitations placed upon his flight capability.

“That’s why we’ve added a fuel mechanic which forces Boba Fett to land from time to time before he can take off again,” Keen added. Fett’s equipment has also been paired with several cooldowns, requiring strategic use of his more powerful weapons.

DICE has already confirmed that Battlefront will feature a wealth of playable heroes and villains, but only three have shown thus far: Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader and Fett himself. The studio maintains that additional characters and features will be revealed in the coming months.
