As the resident PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds player here at GZ, I'm running low on intros for these types of stories, mainly because I've just never seen anything like PUBG before, in terms of rapid growth. It was announced last week that PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds had sold over 10 million copies on Steam while still in early access and it hasn't even been released on Xbox one yet.
Today marks yet another milestone, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has sustained over 1 million concurrent players at one time on Steam taking the crown away from the current reigning champ, DOTA 2, but also Counter-Strike GO, H1Z1 and GTA 5. With over 10 million+ copies sold, it's not hard to imagine over a million people being on at the same time, but what is astounding is just how far ahead of DOTA 2, PUBG really went.
Keep in mind, DOTA 2 still holds the title for the most concurrent players ever, with 1.292,328 last year. But when you consider that PUBG sold 7 million copies two weeks ago, then only two weeks later, hit 10 million sold, that in and of itself is amazing. But it was also during that period when PUBG first overtook DOTA 2 briefly during the weekend by like 50,000-100,000, now that lead has jumped by almost 300,000. Who knows, in another two weeks we could see another record as PUBG takes the crown for the most players playing a single game, ever.
