Sony recently released a new System Software Update for the PlayStation 4 that was intended to bring new icons and more stability, however, it appears to have destabilized some PlayStation consoles.
PlayStation 4 owners are reporting that updating to version 4.70 is tricky at best. The update has allegedly nearly bricked multiple PlayStation 4 consoles, as well as brought some corrupted data errors to others. Of course, the issue is not widespread – so it's tough to say what is causing it.
On Reddit, there are various detailed (less detailed on other social platforms) reports of the update freezing while on the blue loading screen, followed by an error report. Users have tried canceling and deleting the update file to try again, but running into the issue once more. Booting the console up in Safe Mode then installing the update seems to resolve the issue.
On both Reddit and Twitter, there are reports of corrupted data on installed games. Additionally, there are posts on the PlayStation community forum addressing the issue, as well as glitches from the update.
