PS4 Sells 5.9 Million Units Worldwide During Holiday 2017

Sony Interactive Entertainment announced their sales for the holiday season today, which include console sales and software sales for the PS4. The end result was impressive, especially for a console released back in 2013.

The PS4 sold more than 5.9 million units during holiday 2017 alone. It has now sold over 73.6 million units globally since its release. As far as software goes, 55.9 million PS4 games were sold during the 2017 holiday season worldwide, which includes both retail stores and digital downloads. To date, that’s 640 million games sold since launch.

JOhn Kodera, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment made a statement in response to the very positive sales.

“Thanks to the continued support from our fans across the globe, we are honored to announce remarkable sales during the holiday season. PlayStation Network continues to demonstrate spectacular growth, with the number of PlayStation Plus subscribers surpassing 31.5 million*5, and PS Store recording its largest-ever monthly sales of content in December 2017. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to our community and our partners for helping us achieve such phenomenal milestones. We promise our unwavering commitment to bring more amazing experiences to our fans, including exclusive games and innovative network services, as PS4 continues to flourish as the best place to play.”

In other PlayStation news, despite the rocky start in VR, Sony plans to expand their PSVR library to 280 titles for 2018 in their continued effort to bring VR to the forefront.
