Sony has finally detailed when we can get a PlayStation 5 and how much it’ll cost us. During their latest livestream, the tech-giant revealed the PS5 will cost $399.99 for its digital unit and $499.99 for the one with the disc-drive.
The console will be available on November 12th (in most major regions) with pre-orders starting tomorrow. Those who registered with a PS+ account will have a chance to get their pre-order in online if selected via email.
There should be plenty to go around, too. The PlayStation 5 is expected to have 10 million units available in time for late 2020 and early 2021. A rumor was floating around that Sony was having issues with production, leading them to lower estimates. Sony has since come out and stated this rumor is false and they haven’t been effected.
The pricing comes as a bit of a surprise as the PlayStation 5 reportedly costs $450 to make per unit. This means, if that’s true, Sony may lose money on the disc-drive console. Of course, it should be noted Sony makes most of their money through games and services like PlayStation+.
Speaking of games, there are plenty lined-up for launch and beyond. Players can expect to pick up a copy of Spider-Man: Miles Morales with their PlayStation 5 and pre-order games like Grand Theft Auto V and Ratchet and Clank for 2021.
Sony will be going up against Xbox this November. Microsoft has announced their two next-gen consoles, Xbox Series S and Series X, will release on November 10th. While the Series X will cost $499.99, the Series S will be a very appealing $299.99. The big downside for Microsoft is that they don’t have any big exclusives to compete with Spider-Man as Halo Infinite has been delayed to 2021.
