PlayStation Now enables game rentals, tons of new games added

A new update to Sony's video game streaming service PlayStation Now has enabled what appears to be the beginnings of a "rental" system. We'd previously heard that renting games would be an option for those not wanting to subscribe to the Netflix-like pricing plan, but this is the first we've seen of the option actually implemented in the service.

There are currently three rental options available — 1 day, 7 days, and 30 days — but because PlayStation Now is still in beta, there are no prices associated. However, it's that renting a game could cost anywhere from $4.99 to $5.99 each. Again, though, we don't know if this is per day or for one of the other plans.

For those who don't like the idea of renting games individually, PlayStation Now will offer an alternative Netflix-like subscription plan. Similarly, pricing for this type of plan has not been announced either.

In addition to the new rental format, a ton of new games have been added to the catalog. Here are the newest additions to the store:

  • Ben Omniverse 2
  • Contrast
  • Eat Them!
  • FUEL
  • GRID
  • Heavy Fire: Shattered Spear
  • LUMINES: Supernova
  • NIGHTS Into Dreams…
  • PixelJump Racers 2nd Lap
  • PixelJunk Shooter 2
  • Puppeteer
  • Retro/Grade
  • Sniper Elite V2

PlayStation Now was revealed earlier this year as a way of letting PS4 users (or those with specific connected devices) play older titles from the PS1, PS2, and PS3 eras. Invitations to participate in the PlayStation Now beta are being sent out in waves, so if you're not already in on it, keep an eye on your inbox.
