PlayStation Now open beta arrives on PS4 today

PlayStation Now, Sony's new video game streaming service, enters open beta today on PlayStation 4. That means anyone with a PS4 will be able to access Sony's library of PS3 games, rent them, and begin playing immediately via a stream from Sony's cloud servers.

PlayStation Now is fully integrated into the PlayStation Store and gives gamers the option to rent games from a length spanning anywhere from four hours to 90 days. Prices, which are typically decided by the publisher, have been a major focal point with PS Now, with many criticizing Sony for absurd prices. For example, through PlayStation Now you can rent PS3-title Darksiders for 90 days for $14.99. Alternatively, you can head over to Amazon, buy it for $13, and own it forever. Of course, you also have to wait for the game to arrive, so I guess there's a bit of a trade-off there.

Sony says PS4 users will see a "diverse library" of more than 100 titles to rent during PS Now open beta, with more being added regularly. Though Sony originally said PS Now will offer PS1 and PS2 games, so far Sony has only been offering PS3 titles.

Although the open beta is only available for PS4 right now, the service will eventually be offered on PS3, Vita, PlayStation TV and select 2014 Sony TVs.
