PlayStation Now pricing details leaked

Sony has yet to formally announce a pricing structure for its PlayStation Now streaming service, but newly leaked info from PS4Daily might have revealed the cost of renting a game.

Before we get into that, let's first recap what we do know based on other various leaks. We know Sony is thinking about some sort of Netflix-like subscription that will presumably give you unlimited access to the entire PlayStation Now catalog for one price. We also know there's an alternative option in which you can rent individual games. We know you can rent a game for a certain amount of time (1 day, 7 days, or 30 days), but the only pricing we've seen is around $5 to $6 dollars — we don't know what that necessarily pays for though.

So now onto PS4Daily's leaks. A series of leaked screenshots from the PlayStation Now service reveal that games can be rented individual for 4 hours, 7 days, 30 days and 90 days. The pricing, however, is dependent on the game and can range anywhere from $2.99  to $29.99. The site reports that prices are set by the publisher so whereas one game can cost $2.99 for a 4 hour rental, another can cost $4.99 for 4 hours.

Below are some examples:

  • Enslaved: Odyssey to the West: 4 hours ($2.99), 7 days ($5.99), 30 days ($7.99), 90 days ($14.99)
  • Saints Row: The Third The Full Package: 4 hours ($4.99), 90 days ($29.99)
  • Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2: 4 hours ($2.99), 7 days ($5.99), 30 days ($7.99), 90 days ($14.99)
  • Crazy Taxi: 4 hours ($2.99), 7 days ($5.99), 30 days ($7.99), 90 days ($14.99)
  • Final Fantasy XIII: 4 hours ($2.99), 7 days ($5.99), 30 days ($7.99), 90 days ($14.99)
  • Deus Ex: Human Revolution: 4 hours ($4.99), 7 days ($6.99), 30 days ($14.99), 90 days ($29.99)

Some of the games seem a bit pricey considering their age. At $29.99 for 90 days for Saints Row, I feel like you'd be better off just flat out buying it. Of course, if you can manage to beat a game in a month — which I think many can do — then $14.99 for a game like Deus Ex: Human Revolution seems like a pretty good deal. Unfortunately, there was no mention of how much a monthly subscription to the service would cost. Also, maybe PlayStation Plus subscribers will get some sort of discount?

It's worth noting that Sony hasn't confirmed any of this, so treat this informatino purely as rumor and speculation. If it does turn out to be true, how do you feel about the prices?
