PlayStation Store overhaul scheduled for Oct. 23

Hate the look and navigation of the PlayStation Store? No problem. On October 23 in North America, Sony is launching a whole new design.

The overhaul should better highlight new content and improve the user interface by displaying game, movie, and TV content on the front page, according to VG247. Sony unveiled the new design in London today.

Its new "Hero" concept spotlights popular game characters alongside titles and other features. Pages also scroll from left to right in a carousel-type setup. This aesthetical change should not impair users viewing the Store in SD since the entire screen is used and everything scales appropriately.

The search function (and filtering) is also improved, factoring in misspellings and abbreviations. Sony will continue to refine this performance aspect over the coming months.

PS Vita and PSP content will appear in separate channels. Product development manager Elliot Dumville explained that this split of home and portable content should help users find what's relevant to them, as most people browse for the PS3.

All content related to a game is now grouped — putting demos, full games, DLC, themes, and more in one place for easy access.

The movie section will work largely the same way as what's described above.

"What will be refreshing to customers is that this will represent a new agile program that will enable us to add new content every month or so, rather than dumping the new content and saying we’re done,” said Dumville.
