PlayStation Vita sales stay steady at 17,000 for Week 5, 2012

For the week ending January 29th, we saw a minor increase in PlayStation Vita sales in Japan.  After selling slightly less than 19,000 Vitas, last week's numbers were fairly steady with Sony selling 17,141 Vita systems for the week spanning January 30th through February 5th.

The Vita remained the third best-selling system in Japan, being outsold only by the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation 3.  The Vita has been off to a roller-coaster of a start since its Japan-only release in December.  With the portable handheld set to release worldwide in the coming weeks, Sony hopes the Western Markets adopt the system better than Japan did.

The Vita also saw three titles in Media Create's top 50 software sales including new title Ragnarok Odyssey which sold 33,496 copies and was the highest ranked Vita game at 4th.  Also in the top 50 were Tales of Innocence R (8,397 sold) and Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational.  Nintendo 3DS game Resident Evil: Revelations was the week's best selling, selling 43,575 units.

Below is the full hardware chart for week 5, 2012 spanning January 30th to February 5th.

   1. 3DS: 75,018 (84,789)
   2. PS3: 23,293 (22,924)
   3. PSV: 17,141 (18,492)
   4. PSP: 15,847 (16,008)
   5. Wii: 8,814 (10,396)
   6. NDS: 1,759 (1,918)
   7. Xbox 360: 1,382 (1,235)
   8. PS2: 481 (713)

The PlayStation Vita is set to release worldwide on February 22nd, with pre-orders arriving as early as next week for many consumers.  Sony recently released an entire list of over 270 PSP and PlayStation Mini games that will be available for the PS Vita at launch.
