While we await the inevitable reveal of Nintendo's Hybrid Console/Portable, other developers around the Nintendo family are throwing their hat into the ring to support the NX. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Pokemon Company boss Tsunekazu Ishihara confirmed that there will be Pokemon games for the NX.
He said:
"The NX is trying to change the concept of what it means to be a home console device or a handheld device. We will make games for the NX."
While it has been previously rumored that there would be Pokemon games for the NX in the past (most specifically as a launch title), this confirmation still stands as a relief and a source of excitement for series fans. Pokemon games are nothing new to the console space, as Pokemon Snap, Pokemon Stadium, and the (much) less heralded Hey You, Pikachu! were big time releases during the heyday of the Nintendo 64.
Console Pokemon games have fallen on hard times over the years with the Wii releasing Pokemon Battle Revolution, a shell of the greatness that was Pokemon Stadium, and more recently, Pokken Tournament, a spinoff Fighting game that has proven to be a bit of a mixed bag.
Here's hoping that The Pokemon Company can deliver a proper Pokemon Game for the NX in the near future.
