Like it or not, real-world gaming is just getting started, and the same could very well be said for Pokemon GO developer Niantic. In an interview with Gamespot, Niantic's product marketing lead Archit Bhargava discussed at length the possibilities for the mega app going forward, as well as how the company is "trying to create the genre of real-world gaming."
One of the more interesting tidbits is that he happened to mention that his "personal fantasy" is a Game of Thrones game that would function in a similar way to Pokemon GO. He said:
"There could be a board game you could make in the real world where people are capturing locations like Risk or something. My personal fantasy is like a Game of Thrones game where Westeros is mapped out on Earth and you join House Stark or whatever."
It's certainly a great idea given the massive popularity of the Game of Thrones brand, and a real-world game built around a Westerosian style war would help the brand to endure once the show concludes in two years. Naturally, you'd have to expect there are a few nut cases around the world that could potentially take things a bit too far, but so long as nobody dies, it's all in good fun. But seeing as how we are talking about Game of Thrones, dying is a thing that tends to happen a lot.
This oughta be interesting at least.
