Pokemon Go's latest update brought a number of new features to the game, including the ability to participate in Raid Battles. These Raid Battles work like most raids work in other online games – there's a boss and it needs to be defeated by a group of players.
In Pokemon Go, the Raid Battle are centered around a Pokemon with extremely high Combat Power (CP) and are rated between one and five (with one being the easiest and five being the hardest). The lower the Raid Battle rating, the easier the battle and the fewer friends you'll need to take it down.
The ratings are displayed as one of three eggs: Pink (Normal/Common), Yellow (Rare), and Dark (Legendary).
Each Raid Battle will allow you to bring six Pokemon and will be limited to 20 players (which means up to 120 Pokemon can be used against the Raid boss). The Battle System in the raid will be the same as it is at a normal gym and will be limited to 5-minute long battles.
The Raid Battles will allow you to capture the raid boss (the Pokemon you are battling), but only with Premier Balls that are obtained in raids. You will get more Premier Balls as you damage the raid boss, the amount depends on the following factors:
- Who owns the gym: You get more if you're on the same team as the team that runs it
- Damage inflicted by team: The team with the most damage inflicted on the boss gets a boost of Premier Balls
- Damage inflicted by teams: The more damage your team gives, the higher amount of balls of Premier Balls
- Damage inflicted by you: The more damage you give, the higher amount of balls of Premier Balls
In addition to being able to catch the Pokemon you are battling, the Raid Battles offer other items: Golden Razz Berry, a Rare Candy or a TM to teach your Pokémon new moves. In addition to this, you'll also get 3000 XP for completing a raid.
Data files found in Pokemon Go suggest that the hardest battles will offer 'Dark Eggs' which will give players an opportunity to catch Legendary Pokemon. These raids have yet to be encountered.
