Pokemon Gold and Silver Are Coming to Nintendo 3DS eShop

Second generation Pokemon on a current generation platform.

In today's Nintendo Direct, Nintendo focused on Pokemon announcements. Among the few announcements, the classic Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver were announced for the Nintendo 3DS eShop.

The original Pokemon Gold and Silver were originally released for Game Boy Color 17 years ago, and the new version will feature a few new features. For one, it will be compatible with the Pokemon Bank, a 3DS service that allows players to store Pokemon online. Players will also be able to use the wireless communication features the 3DS to do Link Trades and Link Battles with other Virtual Console versions of Pokemon Gold and Silver, as well as the Time Capsule function that allows communication between these titles and Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow which are also on Virtual Console.

This re-release will only be featured on the 3DS, oddly enough. But Switch players rejoice, Pokken Tournament DX was announced for the Switch. It's a deluxe version of Wii U's Pokken Tournament that adds a number of fighters and features.

Definitive versions of Pokemon Sun and Moon were also announced at the Nintendo Direct today, called Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.
