The basic theory of turn-based combat in JRPGs is that it breaks battles down into bite-sized bits, favoring slow-based strategy over frenetic action. And in a lot of ways, it works; but that doesn’t make it seem any less silly when you take a step back and realize you’re watching two lines of people take turns slapping each other.
