With Pokémon’s 20th anniversary on the horizon, The Pokémon Company is getting ready to whip out the big guns. There are already plans in place to re-release first-edition Japanese Pokémon trading cards, as well as plans to release Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow on the 3DS through the Virtual Console — both of which are due to release on February 27th, 2016, the same day the series originally launched.
In addition to re-releasing the cards and original games, there will be a special New 3DS bundle that will release on February 27th.
The bundle features a Pokémon-themed New 3DS, comes with Pokémon Red and Blue pre-installed on the handheld, two cover plates for the 3DS (one for each version of the game), and a special Pokémon-themed menu.
The re-released version of Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow will look similar to the classic version and will introduce a new feature to the game, wireless communication, in the stead of game link cables for trading and battling Pokémon.
