Nintendo fans just can't seem to make their own games, even if they are free. After 9 years, a group of Pokemon fans released their passion project, Pokemon Uranium for free to PC players around the world. As it should be expected, Nintendo was having none of that, and quickly had their lawyers dispatch takedown notices to the team. As a result, Pokemon Uranium was removed much to the chagrin of many (including me) who just barely missed the cutoff.

Pokemon Uranium was the third passion project to bite the dust this month, as a fan-made remake of Metroid II and an archive of every single issue of Nintendo Power were also forced to close-up shop. It's unfortunate that these kinds of things happen, but at the same time, Nintendo is within their rights to protect their copyrights no matter how stingy it comes across. The only thing you can do is be on top of these fan projects as soon as they happen and just expect that they will be removed quickly.
