Pokemon Black and White Sells Over 1M in One Day

It may be the eleventh game in the series, but Nintendo and Game Freak’s Pokemon franchise is still shattering records. According to Nintendo, the latest iterations, Black and White, have sold more than 1.08 million units after just one day in the U.S. The previous entries, Diamond & Pearl, set the record with 780,000.

“These sales numbers illustrate the continued strength of the Nintendo DS family of systems,” said Charlie Scibetta, Senior Director of Corporate Communications for Nintendo America. “Already established as the nation’s best-selling video game platform of all time, the installed base of more than 47 million makes it the ideal hand-held for developers to reach a huge gaming-focused target audience.”

Pokemon Black and White add over 150 new monsters to be caught, though they’re considerably less powerful and useful than the now-familiar characters from earlier generations. The game has a couple of cool features, though, such as changing seasons and new battle modes like “rotation battles.”
