Nintendo of America reported (or tweeted, actually) that Pokemon Black Version and White have collectively sold two million units in just two weeks. This should come as no surprise to fans of the franchise. The Pokemon series of games has always fared well thanks to its solid RPG elements and addictive gameplay. Regardless that everyone expected the game to succeed, this is a remarkable feat.
Pokemon Black and White feature a wealth of new Pokemon, a stronger emphasis on plot development, enhanced visuals, and all of the compelling monster-catching fun that every entry in the series of portable games has managed to encapsulate. Many gamers have already expressed their love for the latest versions, and the twin releases have garnered massive critical acclaim. After some much-need enhancements, it’s no wonder Pokemon Black and White have sold so well.
I loved Pokemon White because it actually felt like a true successor to the series. Unlike HeartGold and SoulSilver, Pokemon Black and White were more than remakes—they were actual sequels, featuring a new story and brand new Pokemon.
Congratulations to Nintendo (“the Pokemon Company”) and Game Freak, who have once again delivered a stellar Pokemon game for the DS. Those Pokemon aren’t gonna catch themselves.
