Developer Polyphony Digital recently confirmed that Gran Turismo 7 is in progress at the studio but will not release this year.
Creator Kazunori Yamauchi affirmed the title’s progress himself, after proposing a 2014 release window last year as the “best-case scenario.” Speaking to Eurogamer, Yamauchi said, “We are working on the title. I don’t think it’ll make this year!”
Yamauchi was able to offer additional details regarding the PS4 racer in the meantime. “I think the quality of the sounds in Gran Turismo 6 will be improved, but most of the work will be done in Gran Turismo 7,” he said, addressing the mountain of feedback criticizing the series’ audio.
“I doubt that we’ll be throwing away the standard cars,” he added. “Each car has its own fans. So I think we’ll hang on to the archive. In the meanwhile, some of those cars we may be able to make into premium cars as they become available — but basically we’re more focused on increasing the number of premium cars.”
