Pools added to The Sims 4 today with free update

Remember when I wrote that The Sims 4 is getting pools sometime this month? Well, I actually meant today.

A free update to The Sims 4 today has finally added the ability for players to build pools and go for a swim — a feature many had clamored for when it was announced that the game would not launch with them. It was an odd feature for EA to omit from the game at launch, but I think the developers deserve some credit for listening to feedback and reacting quickly.

"One of the aspects of pools in The Sims 4 that I’m personally very excited about is the new way to build. For months now, we’ve been talking with you about Build mode and just how easy it is to create homes. All that great technology has now been applied to pools, making pool building faster and easier than ever before," EA said.

Not only have pools just been added back into the game, but they also come with some much-desired features. For starters, The Sims 4 now has diagonal pool building. "Many of you have asked for this so we're happy it will now be included after you update your game," EA said.

Players are also able to place windows on the walls of pools to create an infinity-pool, and can adjust the depth of pools by adjusting the wall heights. And finally, rooftop pools are now a thing, as you can choose to build your pool on ground level, on the second floor, and even on the roof.

In addition to adding the ability to build pools, today's update also includes a new line of swimwear for Create A Sim. "You can mix and match swimwear pieces or try out the “Swimwear” Styled Looks for today’s hottest trends. Now your Sims can really dress the part before taking a dip," EA said.

Swimming isn't the only way to interact with pools. Sims can sit along the ledge of the pool and chat with other Sims who are in the pool, or snuggle next to a loved one. Sims watching from the outside can get splashed though, so be careful around the edge.

Unfortunately, with pools comes the sad truth that they can sometimes result in death. As such, the update adds a new death type: Death by Drowning.

EA promises other surprises in today's update, but is waiting for you to experience them in The Sims 4. If you find any, let us know in the comments below.
