PopCap launching Plants vs. Zombies Adventures on Facebook

PopCap Games revealed a new plan today for its megapopular tower-defense game Plants vs. Zombies, which launched in 2009.

The developer is launching a limited, regional beta of Plants vs. Zombies Adventures on Facebook, with wider availability scheduled for spring. Adventures takes players outside the backyard, the stage of the first game, and on road trips.

Plants vs. Zombies Adventures is a highly accessible, zombie-zapping adaptation of the original game designed specifically for Facebook,” said Curt Bererton, the head of PopCap’s San Francisco studio. “The game not only offers up exclusive new plants and zombies along with old favorites, it features all-new forms of zombie combat that will open PvZ to a whole new world. We like to think we’re creating a brand new twist on the classic Plants vs. Zombies that is the most social, shareable, and expansive Plants vs. Zombies experience ever.”

Players can send over hordes of zombies to friends, compete on leaderboards, and learn new ways to obtain, grow, and deploy plant defenses.

The original game is available to play on Facebook. A sequel titled Plants vs. Zombies 2 is slated for early summer.
