Today, PopCap Games announced that it has reached a deal with NCsoft to bring PopCap’s first online multiplayer social game service to Korea later this year.
PopCap World, which is being developed and released by PopCap’s Shanghai game studio, will launch with 13 of the company’s award-winning games, such as Bejeweled, Plants vs. Zombies and Zuma. An all-new multiplayer game, Super Zuma, is being built exclusively for Korean players. All of the games will be free to play with optional, premium paid elements to be added later.
James Gwertzman, PopCap’s Vice President for Asia/Pacific, compares PopCap World to Disneyland, saying that the social game service has the potential to redefine casual games in Korea in the same way that the theme park revolutionized the amusement park industry. Perhaps that means that PopCap World will also have $10 burgers and 3 hour long lines?
