Possibility of a Super Meat Boy sequel is back on the table

Almost five years ago, Team Meat swore up and down that a sequel to Super Meat Boy just wasn’t a possibility. Citing a fear of tarnishing the original’s legacy, Edmund McMillen felt they did it right the first time and so the team moved onto projects like Mew-Genics and Super Meat Boy: Forever.

However, now McMillen and his partner, Tommy Refenes, are revisiting the idea of a sequel for their much loved, much torturous side-scrolling platformer, "we were like 'How can we finish [Super Meat Boy Forever]? We have to finish this, and I don't know what I'm doing.' That was around the time we realized we could release Meat Boy on other platforms, too. So it was kind of like this change of perspective in a way. What we talked about was possibly working on a sequel, and it's something that I like a lot,” McMillen explained.

While this doesn’t serve as an official announcement of a sequel, it’s good to know that Team Meat is genuinely considering it, especially given their flat out refusal half a decade ago. The team also confirmed that Mew-Genics is still being worked on and not cancelled, as many have feared.
