As Star Wars: The Force Awakens rapidly approaches, fans are grasping for any sort of leaks they can find to further clue them in to the film's story. It's no secret that Disney, Lucasfilm, and director J.J. Abrams are playing their cards close to their chest with The Force Awakens, keeping much about the highly anticipated film a mystery; but, they can't stop all the leaks.
"Force Friday" (September 4) is the day Disney plans to officially unveil the first wave of Force Awakens-themed merchandise, some of which will likely reveal new details. However, as we've already seen, certain merchandise are beginning to leak early.
The latest comes via the back of the X-Wing Miniatures Game box which some fans suspect might be part of The Force Awakens' opening crawl. For those unfamiliar, the opening crawl is the signature device featured at the start of every film in the Star Wars franchise, used primarily to provide viewers context for the film.
The text on the back of the leaked game box begins with the signature phrase "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…." followed by the following text:
"It is a time of uncertainty. Unrest grips the galaxy as the influence of the First Order spreads, but a glimmer of hope remains in the heroic forces of the Resistance. As they struggle against the dark might of the enemy, these brave heroes may yet awaken the skill and strength needed to forge a new future…"
Most seem to agree this is not the full opening crawl, but it's possible it could be a blurb taken from it. Or at the very least influenced by it. If nothing else, it provides us with further context of the political landscape in The Force Awakens. From how it reads, it seems to refer to franchise newcomers Finn and Rey as the new heroes who must awaken. Check out the leaked text below.
