Roughly a month ago, we reported that the controversial zombie defense shooter Metal Gear Survive did indeed still exist and was still planned for release under Konami after series creator Hideo Kojima split from the company. We initially stated it was preparing for a 2017 release. This has not changed to early 2018.
Metal Gear Survive was announced in 2016 as a spin-off from the Metal Gear Solid franchise. The developers state that it will feature a "dense single-player mode" but Konami also promises a cooperative multiplayer mode.
The premise is vastly departed from the rest of the series, taking place in an alternate universe via a wormhole. It has created a vast schism in the Metal Gear Solid fanbase. On one end, it will use Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain's amazing engine to traverse new ideas. On the other end, many fans see it as an insult, considering the bad treatment and eventual split from the creator Hideo Kojima. It's been rumored this week that Konomi is, in fact, still harassing Kojima despite their complete split from each other a year ago.
Regardless, the game is set to release in early 2018 on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. Ultimately, the fate of this new venture won't be known until its release.
