Prepare your bodies, the first real-life Mech unit is coming

It will be glorious.

Three years ago we reported on the Kuratas, a Japanese made mech unit that could be yours for the measly price of ¥120,000,000 ($978,000, £627,000, €882,000). Since then, a US-based robotics company, MegaBots, has been birthed and they have built their own mech unit.

As humans, there's something we all need to do at one point in our lives – test our metal. MegaBots formally challenged Suidobashi Heavy Industry, the makers of Kuratas, to a mech battle and Suidobashi has accepted the challenge under one condition: melee combat must be a part of the fight.

Robo-Katana confirmed??

This is awesome. This is the time to live in, the time when we can witness the first mech battle. Pacific Rim and Gundam, are even closer to reality (pls).

If you're looking to place bets, you might want to know what each bot has going for it…

Kuratas:

  • Height: 12.5 ft (3.8m)
  • Weight: 5 tonnes
  • Top Speed: ~6 mph (10 kph)
  • Software: V-Sido
  • Weapons: BB Gatling gun, 6,000 rounds a minute.
  • Amazon disclaimer (yes it's for sale on Amazon): Unlike the normal riding toy, safety and comfort it is not guaranteed, and guarantee the dream of humanity "consisting robot pilot."

MegaBots:

  • Height: 15 ft (~4.5m)
  • Weight: 6 tonnes
  • Top Speed: 120 mph (193 kph)
  • Weapons: Paintball cannon and T-shirt launcher.

Now that they have accepted, we must prepare ourselves for the glorious, glorious mech future.

Pacific Rim

I want to be a mech fighter.
