Anytime a game gets billed as the next Shadow of the Colossus, it tends to be the proverbial cement shoes for a project. Team Ico’s minimalist classic holds a lot of deserved weight and fans can be merciless when comparisons are made.
So, now that No Matter Studios has officially released the trailer for their first project, Prey for the Gods, and just such parallels were drawn, you can’t help but wonder what that will mean for a project like this. In the trailer, an unnamed protagonist traverses a barren icescape, occasionally stoping to pay homage at shrines and occasionally being confronted by the aforementioned gods. And, it appears, consumed by them.
The most impressive thing about this is that Prey for the Gods is being worked on by just three developers laboring in their off hours for the last year. While it’s hard to tell if this is in-game play, cinematic or just a rough shot this-is-where-we’re-going type trailer, the concept behind it and the atmosphere it places you in is immediately interesting and leaves you wanting to see where they’re going with this one.
Prey for the Gods is currently slated for a PC and Mac release.
