Last week, Christopher Lloyd, perhaps better known as Dr. Emmett 'Doc' Brown, told the Hollywood Reporter he would "love" to do another Back to the Future movie if the right situation were presented. With the sci-fi franchise celebrating its 30th anniversary and today being dubbed "Back to the Future Day" — the day Marty and Doc traveled to in the second film — talk about a potential sequel has been picking up. Unfortunately, not everyone is as optimistic about it.
"You have to be careful when you're doing a sequel or a 'prequel', because it's really about the story. You can't just do the same story over and over again," said Back to the Future producer Frank Marshall told Reuters.
"I think it's OK to have sequels, but they have to be their own movie as well … I'm happy to see things like "Jurassic", like "Bourne". I don't think we're going to see another "Back to the Future" … I think that one's done."
I have to admit, it's a bit odd to hear Marshall shoot down the notion of another Back to the Future, especially since we're living in a time when no franchise is safe from the evil clutches of Hollywood. Just about every other beloved franchise has been remade or rebooted, so I'm not really sure how Back to the Future has avoided the inevitable.
Do you want to see another Back to the Future made?
