Project CARS 2 is coming off an excellent showing at E3 2017, and with the game intending to push consoles as far as they will go, it sounds like the game will come up short of hitting a simultaneous 4K/60 FPS including on the Xbox One X. A quote recently appeared on the Dutch gaming website, Gamersnet from Game Director Stephen Viljoen claiming that Project CARS 2 will run at 4K and 60fps on Xbox One X.
Here's that quote:
Yes, Project CARS 2 wants to run 4K / 60 natively on Xbox One X. […] We are not ready to define the exact resolution on PlayStation 4 Pro yet.
As it turns out, this is a misquote according to Ian Bell, who is the Head of Studio for developer Slightly Mad Studios. In a post on the GTPlanet forums, Bell cleared the air stating that the game will run at "sub 60 FPS at 4K."
On top of that, Project CARS 2 will not reach a locked 60 FPS at any point which Bell goes on to explain. He said:
We don't like the term 'locked'. It would put us in first party territory where chest beating is more important than a great experience. We'll be 60 most of the time in normal racing and we'll push the consoles to and beyond their limits for more interesting racing. Even if that means dropping a few frames.
To be clear, just because Project CARS 2 won't hit a locked 60 FPS in native 4K, doesn't mean that the game still won't look or perform as it should.
