Project Spark officially launching on October 7

Project Spark has been in open beta on Xbox One and Windows 8.1 for quite a while now, but Microsoft today announced that the final version will be released on October 7.

For those unfamiliar, Project Spark is a game, well, more of a digital canvas, that gives players and aspiring game developers the tools and freedom to make games, movies, and other experiences from within. Users can download other user-generated content or create content of their own.

Microsoft will also be releasing an Xbox One disc edition of Project Spark. It'll retail for $39.99, and comes pre-loaded with all sorts of "Starter Pack" content filled with sounds, effects, animations, and props, plus advanced creator features, offline content, and experience boosts which allow players to unlock new content much faster. All of the content included in the disc version will also be available for digital download on Xbox One and Windows 8.1 on launch day.

And, of course, everyone will be able to experience the creations of the 1 million-plus beta creators. In the meantime, you can still participate in the ongoing beta for Xbox One and Windows 8.1.
