I wanted Project Spark to take off, it seemed like it could work so well. Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be. The official Project Spark Twitter sent out their final tweet today to announce that all services for the game have officially ceased. Here is the Tweet.
#ProjectSpark services are now offline. Thanks for playing, creating, and sharing your imaginations with the world! pic.twitter.com/JpC0FXINvn

Project Spark was a DIY game that let players create their own game from a variety of template. Users had created some pretty novel stuff including Silent Hills (for some reason) featuring Nicholas Cage as well as a take on Sony's exclusive LittleBigPlanet. Rare also let Project Spark players make their own Conker games by uploading the character for use in the game's servers.
Even with all of these novelties, it wasn't enough to help Project Spark take off in the end. I suppose it just goes to show that Game Development isn't for everyone, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. One can only hope that Project Spark has given its players a newfound appreciation for those in the industry.
