PS Now subscription service detailed

Sony has kicked off the New Year with a bang, by announcing details for a monthly subscription program for PlayStation Now. Although you've been able to rent games on an individual basis for quite a few months now, Sony has always talked about the idea of paying a flat monthly fee to access the entire library of games. Starting January 13, you'll be able to do so.

Rather than rent games individually, PlayStation owners can choose between one of two subscription plans: one month for $19.99, or a three-month package for $44.99. Obviously, opting for the lengthier period is a bit cheaper. The subscription will provide access to the large catalog of PS3 games currently offered through PS Now.

The subscription service will be available first on PS4 across North America, but will be offered on other PlayStation Now enabled devices in the future. Sony will give players a chance to demo the subscription by offering a free seven-day trial when it launches.

And lastly, to celebrate the launch of the subscription service, a free PS Now theme will be available for PS4 users in early January. If you download it before January 31, you'll automatically be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a one-year PS Now subscription.
