PS3 firmware update 4.45 fix coming June 27

Sony has identified the issue with firmware 4.45, which caused a "small number" of PS3 systems to become unresponsive upon updating, and will release a fix for it later this week. The update, released earlier this week, would cause the console would freeze on the dashboard without the XMB menu appearing. In some cases, the PS3 would become unresponsive to the power button.

The new update that will supposedly resolve the issue is planned for release on Thursday, June 27. Here's the full post on the PlayStation 3 support forums:

We have identified the issue related to the PlayStation 3 software update (version 4.45) that impacted a small number of PS3 systems earlier this week. A new PS3 system software update is planned to be released on June 27 that resolves the issue. Thank you for your patience and understanding and we apologize for the inconvenience.

Were you affected by the firmware update issue? More importantly, did the recent issue sway your decision on a next-gen console?
