PS3 firmware update 4.70 now available, here’s what’s new

Despite more than 18 million PlayStation 4s out in the wild right now, Sony hasn't forgotten about the PlayStation 3. A new firmware update (version 4.70) has been released for the PS3, bringing a number of minor changes. The most exciting difference is probably the change in icon for PlayStation Network, which now falls in line more closely with Sony Computer Entertainment's current branding.

Here are the official notes for firmware update 4.70:

  • Closed Captions are now supported for the Playback of Blu-Ray Disc titles and DVDs. To display closed captions, select [Settings] > [Video Settings] > [Closed Captions].
  • The style used for for closed captions, such as the font, size and color, can now be adjusted. Select [Settings] > [Video Settings] > [Closed Captions Settings].
  • The name and icon for (PSNâ„ ) have been changed to  (PlayStation™Network).

To download the update, you'll need at least a minimum 200MB of free space on either the PS3 hard disk drive or on removable storage media.
