PS4 companion app update adds stream viewing functionality

The PlayStation 4 companion app for Android and iOS devices has been updated. The update includes a number of stability improvements, but the major focus seems to be on the PS4's video-sharing capability.

With a new "Live from PlayStation" feature, app users can tune in to game streams directly from the mobile device; however, the streams don't actually open up in the app itself. Both Ustream and Twitch.tv apps either open in their own application or the mobile device browser, which is kind of annoying. I only tested it on iPhone, but Engadget reports the same is true of Android.

The update change-log also notes that notifcations from PS Store are now supported. These notifications will appear under the "What's New" tab. Addtiionally, the app will no longer connect to a PS4 system that is in standby mode.
