Today, PlayStation has announced a new Gold Wireless Headset designed for the PS4. It aims for better comfort and performance over the previous model.
Announced on the PlayStation Blog, the new model maintains the general design of the original PS4 headset but comes with a new design for the over-ear cushions to increase comfort for long periods of time. It also features 7.1 virtual surround sound when used with a compatible game. Also enhanced is the microphone, including noise-canceling technology to provide clearer communication.
The 7.1 virtual surround sound will likely couple perfectly with PS VR, allowing further immersion with both audio and visuals.
Lastly, the PS4 now has a Headset Companion App which allows you to load custom audio modes that you can specifically tune to your preferences.
Sony plans to continue bringing PS VR into 2018, even going as far as offering PS VR trial kits to select PlayStation Plus members. PlayStation insists that virtual reality will be become a “thing” in the living room and continues to push it there with a continued library of VR games in 2018.
The Gold Wireless Headset will launch in the next few weeks for $99.99 in the United States.
